Ross Pearsall Chainsaw Carving

About
The Full Story
My name is Ross Pearsall. I was born in the centre of Birmingham in 1964 and grew up in the nearby suburb of Erdington, in a very musical family. My father was a professional piano player and my mother principal dancer at the Birmingham Hippodrome and Alexandra theatres through the 1950's. I inevitabley became a professional musician, travelling and playing throughout Europe.
I moved to Wordsley near Stourbridge in 1987 and then on to Bridgnorth in 2020 where I live just a 60 second walk from the River Severn with my wife Claire.
Around 2007, having cut our firewood for many years, I became aware and felt inspired by some of the UK's best chainsaw carvers to have a go at this extraordinary activity. I very quickly became totally addicted.
I was lucky to start carving in my local woods and soon found myself with orders and requests. Soon after I was invited to regularly attend open days at the beautiful Ashwood Nurseries when the owner John Massey would open his wonderful private award winning gardens to the public.
After establishing a local reputation carving under the name Friars Gorse Wood and completing many private commissions, I regularly fulfilled events and open days for local businesses.
In 2021 I became a full time carver and in 2022 I was thrilled to receive a place at the 17th English Open Chainsaw Carving Competition, competing alongside the highest quality carvers in the country.
